How To Use Non-Induction Cookware On Induction Cooktop - Experiments

Every cooking lover wants to have a modern kitchen with fantastic cooking materials. Due to technological advancement, we have got so many worthy cooking instruments. Induction cooktop is popular cooking material nowadays. But if you want to replace your current cooking set up with induction, it costs you higher.

How To Use Non-Induction Cookware On Induction Cooktop

Here is an alternative way by which you can understand how to use non-induction cookware on induction cooktop. So, why do not you take this opportunity to have smoother cooking experience?

How to Use Non-Induction Cookware on Induction Cooktop

Your non-induction cookware needs to have the source from where it can get the heat. Only magnetically conductive cookware is compatible with an induction cooktop. If it is not there, then how to make a pan work on induction?

Use Converter Disk with Non-Induction Cookware

A converter disk could be the best solution to make your non-induction cookware well-suited with your induction cooktop. The converter disk has a flat shape, and it is made of stainless steel or iron. It consists of a safe handle that is heatproof. You can hold it comfortably. It helps to ensure even heat distribution to all portions of the cookware. The converter discs for induction cooktop are easily available in the market.

The using process of the converter disk is very simple. At first, you need to place the disc on the cooktop. After that, place it on the non-induction cookware. The disc is a plate which acts as a fitting between the induction stovetop and the base of the cookware. The plate is thin, as well as heavy. This combination reduces the possibility of its tipping or slipping. There are many types of converter disks available in the market. So, you have to choose the one that can provide you optimum benefits.

Before buying the converter disk, do some research on the internet. Many related blogs and customer reviews will help you to find out the best one. Keep it on your mind that the handle of the disk must be heatproof, and the magnet should be strong.

The negative sides of using a converter disk for induction cooktop

The metallic discs for induction cooker have some lacking too. In the theoretical view, the converter disc absorbs the magnetic waves, and then it transfers the heat to the non-induction cookware. It is almost the same if you directly place an induction compatible cookware. But the situation is different in practice.

In general, there is always lack of smooth polishing on the cookware metal. So, the metal surface of the cookware becomes rough. When you try to place the non-induction cookware on the disc, the uneven surface creates some tiny spaces of air. The air is a barrier to transfer uninterrupted heat. So, it slows down the transfer of heat to the cookware. As a result, the converter disc becomes hotter than the bottom of the cookware.

It takes more than double time in cooking with non-induction cookware with the assistance of a converter disk. A stainless steel made converter disk was used to do a study on it. They boil 8 cups of water on induction cookware without converter disk. At the same time, they boil the same amount of water on non-induction cookware with a converter disk. For the first case, it took almost nine minutes to boil the water. In the second case, they could boil the water in nineteen minutes.

Another thing happened after ten minutes and thirty seconds. The converter disk started suffocating from 1500 watts to 1200 watts. It happened due to long time heating the disc, and it had an effect on ceramic and lower insulation.

So, how to trick an induction cooker in this case? We have found two solutions to solve this issue.

1. Solution One – Use Netted Steel

This solution is a trick found on Youtube. It shows that we can use a netted steel sheet. Generally, we use it on our doors and windows. You can find it on any hardware tool store. At first, fold the netted steel sheet double. Then put the steel on the cooktop. Then place the non-induction cookware over the sheet and turn the power switch on. It may take a longer time for big size bowl.

Please take the precautions before doing this trick. You need to ensure that no one would get injured by touching it unexpectedly. Touching net when you are cooking is prohibited. Switch the power off before removing the cookware and netted mesh. It is better to use oven gloves to check the warmness of the steel mesh.

2. Solution two – Use Computer Thermal Paste

There is also another trick for a one-time solution. Add some thermal paste of computer o the lower part of the cookware. Now place it on the converter disc. The paste will work as a paper-thin layer. It will help to fill the air gap of the metal surfaces. We can not call it an ideal way, but comparing with the air, it is far better. The thermal paste is vulnerable at high temperatures.

So, you need to apply the paste every time you remove the disc from the cookware.

Final Words

Now you know how to use non-induction cookware on induction cooktop. But as you see, there are some difficulties using converter disc; it is wise to avoid converter disc. If you want to have long term satisfaction, invest your money on induction compatible cookware. Otherwise, try to find out the best quality converter disc in the market.
